Resumen de Comunidades rurales universitarias: desempeño en memoria operativa e inteligencia fluida

  El presente estudio persiguió tres objetivos, de los cuales el primero fue comparar entre estudiantes bajo modalidad a distancia, pertenecientes a dos comunidades rurales, la capacidad de memoria operativa en sus dominios verbal y viso-espacial. El segundo fue contrastar entre ambos grupos la fluidez de inteligencia, y el tercero comparar los puntajes de memoria operativa de ambas comunidades con los obtenidos por una comunidad urbana de características parecidas. Siguiendo un enfoque cuantitativo, se realizó un estudio descriptivo con 33 universitarios por cada grupo, de los cuales 45% eran mujeres con edad promedio de 20.9 años y 20.6 años en hombres. Para medir la memoria operativa, se aplicaron tareas de alcance complejo con estímulos de los dominios verbal y viso-espacial. Para medir la fluidez de inteligencia, se aplicó la prueba de matrices progresivas de Raven escala general. En ambas mediciones, los puntajes fueron similares entre ambas comunidades rurales y en cuanto a la comparación con la comunidad urbana, para esta última, se encontraron mayores puntajes en las tareas del dominio viso-espacial. Lo anterior sugiere que el contexto del estudiantado pudo desempeñar un papel importante en las mediciones obtenidas, de acuerdo con trabajos anteriores similares.

  This study pursued three objectives, the first of which was to compare the working memory capacity in the verbal and visuospatial domains between students from two rural communities in the distance learning modality. The second was to compare fluid intelligence between both groups, and the third was to compare the working memory scores of both communities with those obtained by an urban community with similar characteristics. Following a quantitative approach, a descriptive study was carried out with 33 university students in each group, of whom 45% were women with an average age of 20.9 years and 20.6 years in men. To measure working memory, complex span tasks were applied with stimuli from the verbal and visuospatial domains. To measure fluid intelligence, the Raven’s Progressive Matrices test general scale was applied. In both measurements, the scores were similar between both rural communities and in the comparison with the urban community, for the latter, higher scores were found in the tasks of the visuospatial domain. This suggests that the context of the students may have played an important role in the measurements obtained, according to similar previous works.
