    En la Patagonia argentina el rol de la prensa escrita ocupó históricamente un lugar central. Durante la etapa de dominación estatal (1878-1955), los periódicos actuaron como prensa de frontera, colaboradores del Estado nacional en la misión de civilizar la población e incorporarla a la Nación en construcción. Con la creación de las provincias patagónicas en 1955, el reconocimiento de la autonomía política motivó el reposicionamiento del rol de la prensa para lograr sostener un lugar significativo en la nueva constelación de poder. En este artículo analizaremos el periódico La Nueva Era, editado en el norte de la Patagonia. Este periódico, verdadero actor político, constituyó uno de los medios de mayor calidad informativa y trascendencia regional. El objetivo es interpretar la estrategia del periódico para reformular su contrato fundacional ante el cambio de coyuntura política y la pervivencia de la noción de prensa de frontera como legitimadora del accionar del medio en la región. Nuestra investigación demuestra que la estrategia desplegada por el periódico fue despojarse de su identificación comarcal para presentarse como actor como actor político relevante de la novel provincia.Palabras clave: Prensa, Patagonia, Política, Frontera, Estado, Argentina, siglo XX.

    In the Patagonia Argentina, the role of the written press has historically occupied a central place. During the stage of state domination (1878-1955) the newspapers acted as frontier press, collaborators of the national State in the mision of civilizing the population and incorporating it into the Nation under construction. With the creation of the Patagonian provinces in 1955, the recognition of political autonomy motivated the repositioning of the role of the press in order to maintain a significant place in the new constellation of power. In this article we will analyze the newspaper La Nueva Era, published in Northern Patagonia. This newspaper a true political actor, was one of the highest quality of information and regional significance amongst the media sector. The objective is to interpret the strategy of the newspaper to reformulate its founding contract in the face of the change in the political situation and the survival of the notion of the border press as a legitimizer of the media’s actions in the region. Our research shows that the strategy deployed by the newspaper was to shed its regional identification to present itself as a relevant political actor in the new province.Keywords: Press, Patagonia, Politics, Border, State, Argentina, 20th century.
