Resumen de Revolución e inmigración en México (1908-1940)

En este artículo se estudia el significado que México revolucionario otorgó a la inmigración. Para ello, por un lado se indagan los fundamentos nacionalistas que cristalizaron en la Constitución de 1917, y por otro lado, se revisan las políticas y legislaciones migratorias de los distintos gobiernos de la inmediata posrevolución. Desde estas dos vertientes se explica el esfuerzo por construir una nación desafiando permanentes amenazas extranjeras, para así forjar una nacionalidad que tuvo como fundamento el mestizaje racial y cultural.

This article studies the way in which revolutionary Mexico processed the meaning of immigrants’ presence. Thus, on the one hand, it explores the nationalist foundations that crystalized in the 1917 Constitution; while on the other, it reviews the migratory policies and legislation of the different post revolutionary governments. From these two perspectives, it is possible to explain the efforts exerted to construct a nation in the midst of constant foreign threats, and in that way forge a nationality based on the “mestizo” concept.
