    El objetivo de este estudio radicó en comparar los resultados de cuatro índices para la caracterización de sequías meteorológicas en la localidad de Guanare, Estado Portuguesa. La información utilizada para el estudio se obtuvo del registro de datos meteorológicos, provenientes de series de precipitación mensual de la estación meteorológica Aeropuerto-Guanare del estado Portuguesa, para el período 1982-2015.

    The objective of this study was to compare the results of four indices for the characterization of meteorological droughts in the town of Guanare, Portuguese State. The information used for the study was obtained from the record of meteorological data, from monthly precipitation series of the Airport-Guanare weather station in the state of Portuguesa, for the period 1982-2015. Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Z Statistical Index (ZSI), Chinese Z Index (CZI) and Percentage of Normal Precipitation (PNP) were used, based on monthly precipitation data, which allowed to identify and describe drought events in the locality under study. The results obtained with the ZSI, CZI and PNP indices reflected heterogeneous values in the percentages of occurrence of droughts, especially in the recognition of severe and extreme droughts;

    compared to the ISP. Based on the above, the SPI demonstrated greater sensitivity to precipitation changes, proving to be the best option for the detection of drought events for being more consistent and reliable.
