    : The world-system perspective has received a plethora of analysis and contributions mostly based on the frameworks stablished by Immanuel Wallerstein during his seminal works between the 1970 and 1980 decades. However, we perceive a relative isolation of a critical review done by one of the main contributors of the world-system reading, André Gunder Frank, in the midst of the 1990 decades when he joined the young sociologist Barry Gills and based a thesis that described the existence of a five thousand years world-system, contrary to the beginning at the “long sixteenth century” as Wallerstein states. Focusing in that split, the objective of this text is to perform a world-system qualitative literature review capable to elucidate the main theoretical and methodological differences between these perspectives and to highlight the contributions of other authors next to the discussion

    A perspectiva de sistema-mundo tem recebido uma quantidade considerável de contribuições e análises que se baseiam, em grande parte, nos pilares estabelecidos por Immanuel Wallerstein quando de seus textos seminais nas décadas de 1970 e 1980. Todavia, percebe-se um relativo isolamento de uma revisão feita por um dos principais contribuintes da leitura de sistema-mundo, André Gunder Frank, quando em meados dos anos 1990 se uniu ao jovem sociólogo Barry Gills e fundamentou uma tese que descrevia a existência de um sistema mundo de cinco mil anos, ao contrário da leitura de Wallerstein focada no “longo século XVI”.

    Partindo desta cisão, o presente texto tem por objetivo trazer uma revisão qualitativa da literatura de sistema-mundo, capaz de elucidar as principais diferenciações teóricometodológicas entre tais perspectivas, e sublinhar as contribuições de autores próximos à discussão.
