Resumen de “O esporte proletário de massas”: pioneirismo, dominação e popularização do futebol na cidade do Rio Grande/RS (1898-1926)

  : O presente artigo visa analisar as contradições sociais presentes na prática inicial do futebol na cidade do Rio Grande/RS, predominantemente elitista e aristocrática, e entender as potencialidades e limites da apropriação desta prática por parte da classe trabalhadora. Para tal, aborda-se a relevância dos clubes da cidade na difusão do futebol no Rio Grande do Sul e a forma como ele tornou-se rapidamente um “esporte proletário de massas”. Além disso, elenca-se a fundação e as diretrizes das ligas de futebol em Rio Grande, que se tornam o epicentro das tensões entres clubes de diferentes origens sociais, pois reforçavam mecanismos de dominação e exclusão no seu interior. A partir de uma pesquisa histórica documental, concluiu-se que tais interdições não foram capazes de afastar do futebol os trabalhadores, que encontraram formas de driblar esses marcadores de desigualdades e ressignificar sua prática, sendo parte importante das intensas disputas em torno das identidades de classe no Brasil.

  This article aims to analyze the social contradictions present in the initial practice of soccer in the city of Rio Grande/RS, predominantly elitist and aristocratic, and to understand the potentialities and limits of the appropriation of this practice by the working class. To this end, the relevance of the city clubs in the diffusion of soccer in Rio Grande do Sul and the way it quickly became a "mass proletarian sport" is discussed. Besides that, the foundation and the guidelines of the soccer leagues in Rio Grande, which became the epicenter of tensions among clubs of different social origins, because they reinforced mechanisms of domination and exclusion inside them, are listed. Based on a historical documentary research, it is concluded that such interdictions were not able to keep workers, away from soccer who found ways to dribble these markers of inequality and re-signify their practice, being an important part of the intense disputes around class identities in Brazil.
