    This work seeks to understand, through examples of female authored literature with a decolonial view, how motherhood is seen in a woman’s life. For many years, female characters in world literature were described only in relation to the male protagonists of their narratives, and female mothers were even more stereotyped and silenced. However, with the notoriety of literature written by women, it is possible to realize that these characters can have their own arcs away from male eyes and can wish to be more than caregivers. It is through this perspective that we intend to investigate how the category ‘mother’ is described in texts written by female authors. With the contribution of Postcolonialism and Decolonialism theorists, the position of women in society and their role in a dichotomous world will be analyzed. The texts show how it is possible to understand women as their own beings, and how the chains imposed by society are really imprisoning.

    O presente trabalho busca compreender, passando por exemplos da literatura de autoria feminina com uma visão decolonial, como a maternidade é vista na vida de uma mulher. Por muitos anos, as personagens mulheres da literatura mundial foram descritas apenas em relação aos protagonistas homens de suas narrativas, e as mulheres mães ainda mais estereotipadas e silenciadas. Todavia, com a notoriedade da literatura escrita por mulheres, é possível perceber que essas personagens podem ter seus próprios arcos longe dos olhos masculinos e podem desejar ser mais do que apenas cuidadoras. É por esse viés que se pretende investigar como a categoria ‘mãe’ é descrita nos textos escritos por autoras mulheres. Com o aporte de teóricas e teóricos do Pós-Colonialismo e do Decolonialismo, será analisada a posição da mulher na sociedade e seu papel em um mundo dicotômico. Os textos mostram como é possível compreender as mulheres como seres próprios, e como as amarras impostas pela sociedade são realmente aprisionantes.
