El emperador Constantino es, con toda seguridad, el último gran gobernante del Imperio romano. Ninguno de sus sucesores logrará aglutinar todo el territorio bajo un mismo poder efectivo. Para ello, Constantino asumirá el discurso de la religión mayoritaria del Imperio en el siglo iv: el cristianismo. Conforme con ello, a través de su legislación, consagrará un modelo de mujer incardinado en la fidelidad conyugal, que pondrá fin a cierta autonomía que habían alcanzado las mujeres en los años anteriores.

Emperor Constantine is surely the last great ruler of the Roman Empire. None of his successors will succeed in bringing together the entire territory under the same effective power. To this purpose, Constantine will assume the discourse of the majority religion of the Empire in the fourth century: Christianity. Accordingly, through its legislation, it will enshrine a model of woman incardinated in conjugal fidelity that will put an end to a certain autonomy that women had achieved in previous years.
