Resumen de Santos en transición: Los santos jesuitas y el patronazgo en el País Vasco y Navarra

Los santos jesuitas Ignacio de Loyola y Francisco Javier van a representar dosmodelos de santidad cuyas características van a depender estrechamente de los ideales postridentinos. El relato sobre sus biografías y milagros va a estarfuertemente condicionado, además, por una cuestión de especial relevancia para la hagiografía del periodo: el patronazgo. Por ello, el objetivo principal de este trabajo será analizar los procesos que llevaron a su elección como patronos de Guipúzcoa, Vizcaya y Navarra a través de distintas fuentes, con el fin de comprender la importancia que estos tuvieron para la Compañía de Jesús y sus intentos por asentar su influencia en estos territorios.

The Jesuit saints Ignatius of Loyola and Francis Xavier will represent two models of holiness whose characteristics will depend closely on post-Tridentine ideals. The story about their biographies and miracles will be strongly conditioned, moreover, by a question of special relevance for the hagiography of the period: patronage. Therefore, the main objective of this work will be to analyze the processes that led to their election as patron saints of Guipúzcoa, Vizcaya and Navarra through different sources, to understand the importance that had for the Society of Jesus and their attempts to establish their influence in these territories.
