    Los latinoamericanos hoy confrontamos un dilema, aceptar que simple y llanamente somos occidentales, miembros sin reparo de la civilización Occidental, o por el contrario dudar de nuestra “membresía” a esta civilización. Las opiniones están divididas, autores como el filósofo venezolano J. M. Briceño Guerrero, comparte la primera opción, mientras que el politólogo estadounidense Samuel Huntington, clasifica al Sub-Continente como una sub civilización de Occidente. Le corresponde al estudioso de la filosofía Latinoamericana esclarecer qué somos y por lo tanto definir hacia dónde vamos en el devenir histórico.

    Today, we as Latin-Americans are faced with a dilemma, accept without recourse that we are plainly and simply westerners, members of the western civilization; or to the contrary, doubt our “membership” in this civilization. Opinions are divided; authors such as the Venezuelan philosopher J.M. Briceño Guerrero share the first option, while the American political scientist Samuel Huntington classifies the Latin-American subcontinent as a sub civilization of the West. It falls to Latin-American philosophy scholars to clarify who we are and thus define where we are going and who we will become in the future.
