Las benzodiazepinas, conocidas por su estructura química con anillo benzodiazepínico, tienen efectos terapéuticos ansiolíticos, hipnóticos, miorrelajantes y anticonvulsivos, principalmente. Se clasifican según su vida media, impactando en su administración y posibles efectos de acumulación, especialmente en personas mayores. Son absorbidas eficientemente por vía oral, con variaciones según el estado del estómago y la presencia de antiácidos. También, se aplican intramuscular e intravenosamente, con precauciones específicas. Presentan un potencial de abuso y dependencia, manifestándose en diferentes formas de adicción. Su retirada debe ser gradual para evitar síntomas de abstinencia severos. A pesar de su seguridad en sobredosis, su combinación con otros depresores aumenta su toxicidad. Su efectividad y seguridad dependen del manejo cuidadoso de sus propiedades y efectos.

They are efficiently absorbed orally, with variations depending on the state of the stomach and the presence of antacids. They are also administered intramuscularly and intravenously, with specific precautions. Benzodiazepines present a potential for abuse and dependence, manifesting in different forms of addiction. Their withdrawal should be gradual to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms. Despite their safety in overdose, their combination with other central nervous system depressants increases their toxicity. Their effectiveness and safety depend on the careful management of their properties and effects.
