Resumen de Un llamado a la activación real de la Sociedad Chilena de Ciencias Forestales

  RESUMEN: Aunque en lo formal existe la Sociedad Chilena de Ciencias Forestales (SOCIFOR), creada por un grupo de instituciones ligadas al sector forestal, lamentablemente su inactividad ha debilitado su progreso. En el presente trabajo se exponen algunas desventajas de la SOCIFOR, así como se proponen acciones para mejorarla. Se sugiere, entre otras, ampliar la base de formación y funcionamiento de SOCIFOR, re-estructurar sus estatutos empleando el de sociedades similares, tomar un rol activo en la organización del congreso nacional de ciencias forestales, y así también en la edición de la revista chilena de ciencias forestales (i.e., Bosque). La presente propuesta es ambiciosa, pero alcanzable si los actores involucrados se unen en torno a un horizonte común: fortalecer las ciencias forestales de Chile.

  SUMMARY: While the Chilean Society of Forest Sciences (SOCIFOR) was created by a group of forest-related institutions, its inactivity has wakened its progress. Here, we point out certain shortcomings of SOCIFOR, and propose actions to address them. We suggest increasing the number of members, restructuring its regulatory statutes - modeled on those used by other scientific societies-, taking an active role in the organization of the national forest science congress and editing the Chilean journal of forest science (i.e. Bosque). Strengthening SOCIFOR would help to improve the standing of forest sciences in the country. Our proposal is ambitious, though doable, if the keys come together to achieve a common goal: strengthening forest sciences in Chile.
