Quine: Un giro interpretacionista y pragmático en la filosofía analítica del positivismo lógico

    Quine crítica dos tesis características del positivismo lógico: la distinción analítico-sintético y el reductivismo. Además rechaza las nociones intensionales que estas tesis suponen, tales como la de analiticidad, sinonimia y proposición. En este sentido, propone una teoría semántica acerca del lenguaje natural, que se plantea dar cuenta del lenguaje científico con total prescindencia de aquéllas.  El objetivo de este artículo es analizar dos aspectos de esta teoría, uno que emparenta a Quine con el positivismo lógico, y otro que lo separa diametralmente de éste. El primer aspecto refiere a la utilización de una estrategia lógico-formal como herramienta filosófica. El segundo aspecto remite al giro interpretacionista y pragmático -respecto del marco teórico ofrecido por el positivismo lógico-, que se evidencia en el papel determinante que esta teoría confiere a la acción del sujeto lingüístico en la constitución del significado.

    Quine criticizes two characteristic theses of logical positivism: the analytic-synthetic distinction and reductionism. On the other hand, he rejects the intensional notions that these theses suppose, such as analyticity, synonymy and proposition. As a change, he proposes a semantic theory about the natural language that intends to account for scientific language without those notions.  This paper intends to analyze two aspects of this theory, one that relates Quine with logical positivism and the other one that sharply separates him from it. The first aspect hast to do with the use of a logical-formal strategy as a philosophical tool. The second one takes us to the pragmatic and interpretationist turn –from the theoretical frame of logical positivism–, made evident by the determinant role that this theory gives to the action of the linguistic subject in the constitution of meaning.
