El desarrollo se relaciona con el conjunto de valores, actitudes y motivaciones que dirigen las relaciones entre comunidad y naturaleza, y se traducen en sistemas de apropiación, producción, manejo y preservación del ambiente y calidad de vida; el éxito de esto y la posibilidad de sostenibilidad dependerá de la capacidad de planeación, orden y eficiencia de los procesos de desarrollo local y nacional. Las características de las condiciones socioeconómicas y ambientales de una comunidad determinan la capacidad de desarrollo sostenible y dichas condiciones dependerán de los recursos con que cuenten sus comunidades. Sobre este tema trata la investigación, presentando como estudio a la comunidad de Isla Grande; utilizando un diseño descriptivo, enfocado principalmente en identificar las características sociales, económicas y ambientales de este territorio y así determinar las condiciones, problemáticas y demás factores que puedan afectar al desarrollo sostenible de esta colectividad. Este estudio consta de tres partes; la caracterización socio-ambiental de la comunidad de Isla Grande, la cual establece el análisis de los datos obtenidos de las encuestas y/o entrevistas anónimas realizadas a miembros de la comunidad y a funcionarios públicos con incidencia en la zona. La segunda parte se relaciona con las características ambientales de Isla Grande, la cual parte de un análisis documental de estudios realizados por autoridades ambientales en relación con la información de la gestión, uso y explotación de los recursos por parte de sus habitantes, por último y a modo de conclusión se establecen los factores que obstaculizan el desarrollo sostenible en Isla Grande

Development is related to the set of values, attitudes and motivations that command the relations between community and nature, and are translated into systems of appropriation, production, management and preservation of the environment and quality of life; the success of this and the possibility of sustainability will depend on the planning capacity, order and efficiency of the local and national development processes. The characteristics of the socio-economic and environmental conditions of a community determine the capacity for sustainable development and these conditions will depend on the resources available to their communities. The research deals with this topic, presenting as a study the community of Isla Grande; using a descriptive design, focused mainly on identifying the social, economic and environmental characteristics of this territory and thus determine the conditions, problems and other factors that may affect the sustainable development of this community. This study consists of three parts; the socio-environmental characterization of the Isla Grande community, which establishes the analysis of the data obtained from the surveys and / or anonymous interviews carried out with community members and public officials with an impact in the area. The second part is related to the environmental characteristics of Isla Grande, which starts from a documentary analysis of studies carried out by environmental authorities in relation to information on the management, use and exploitation of resources by its inhabitants, and finally In conclusion, the factors that hinder sustainable development in Isla Grande are established.
