The plan for the gardens of the royal palace in Messina drawn in 1714 by Filippo Juvarra shows a small oval church, whose presence conditioned the development of the project. This was the Carmelite church of Santa Maria della Grazia, also called Santa Teresa, built between 1686 and 1701, and destroyed because of the war twenty years later.
