  • The Length-weight relationships (LWRs) were estimated for 29 commercially important demersal reef fish species caught in the experimental longline fisheries from the Gulf of Mannar (GoM), India during December, 2019 to September, 2021. For this purpose, the experimental longline gear was operated between 20 and 50 m depths during from 3 to 5 hours. By using the logarithmic transformed data, linear regression analysis was performed to calculate a and b values for 29 fish species distributed under 5 families and 6 genera to establish LWRs. The estimated minimum and maximum allometric coefficient (b), coefficient of determination (r2) and Fulton’ condition factor (K) were 2.6023 and 3.8743, 0.8493 and 0.9019, 1.3357 and 2.5846, respectively. This study reports a new maximum size for Lutjanus rivulatus (83 cm) for the whole world for the first time. In addition, the current study brings out information on LWR of fish species like Lethrinus ornatus, Lethrinus harak, Cephalopholis urodeta, Epinephelus polyphekadion and Epinephelus coeruleopunctatus for the first time in Indian waters in general and GoM in particular.
