  Se define como Soporte Vital Básico (SVB) el conjunto de maniobras encaminadas a resolver ciertas situaciones médicas sin ayuda exterior de ningún tipo. Para ello se deberá detectar el fallo cardiorrespiratorio y emplear técnicas como maniobras de posición lateral de Seguridad (PLS) y de manejo para solucionar las posibles obstrucciones de la vía aérea causada por cuerpos extraños. Habitualmente se podría decir que el Soporte Vital Básico sería igual a la Reanimación Cardio Pulmonar (RCP).

  Basic Life Support (BLS) is defined as the set of maneuvers aimed at resolving certain medical situations without outside help of any kind. To do this, cardiorespiratory failure must be detected and techniques such as lateral safety position (LSP) and handling maneuvers must be used to solve possible airway obstructions caused by foreign bodies. Usually, it could be said that Basic Life Support would be the same as Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
