Resumen de Caracterización morfológica de los órganos vegetativos y reproductivos de Cinchona officinalis L. (Rubiaceae) en la provincia de Loja (Ecuador)

  Con el objetivo de generar información útil para conocer la variabilidad morfológica y conservar e incrementar la propagación de Cinchona officinalis L. (Rubiaceae) en su hábitat natural, se realizó la caracterización de los órganos vegetativos y reproductivos de la especie, en los sectores de Selva Alegre y Uritusinga, sitios pertenecientes a la provincia de Loja. Para la caracterización se utilizaron descriptores botánicos cuali-cuantitativos. Los árboles de C. officinalis presentaron alturas entre 3 y 9 m, con hojas opuestas y decusadas, de forma oval, entera, penninervia, color verde amarillento, de 7,3 a 16,9 cm de largo, con un pecíolo de 1,2 a 3,7 cm de longitud. En las variables cuantitativas como ancho y área foliar, se evidenció disimilitud de valores entre los dos sitios, presentando Selva Alegre el mayor valor en el ancho de la base del limbo foliar de 4,33 cm. Las flores del sitio de Selva Alegre presentaron los valores más altos en el área de la corola de 0,5 a 0,84 cm2, con una longitud promedio de los estambres de 0,6 a 1,5 cm; en cambio, las flores del sitio de Uritusinga alcanzaron el mayor valor en la longitud del estilo de 0,8-1,6 cm, la longitud promedio de las flores fue de 1,3 a 1,6 cm. Los frutos, presentaron una forma oblonga u elíptica, de color rojo oscuro, con una longitud de 1,9-2,48 cm; el mayor número de semillas por fruto se evidenció en el sitio de Uritusinga, con la presencia de 39 semillas/fruto, con una longitud de la semilla de 4,3 a 5,73 mm.

  In order to generate useful information to know the morphological variability and conserve and increase the spread of Cinchona officinalis L. (Rubiaceae) in its natural habitat, the characterization of the vegetative and reproductive organs of the species was carried out, in the sectors of Selva Alegre and Uritusinga, from Loja province (Ecuador). Qualitative-quantitative botanical descriptors were used for characterization. The trees of C. officinalis presented heights between 3 and 9 m, with opposite and decussate leaves, oval in shape, entire, penninervia, yellowish green, 7.3 to 16.9 cm long, with a 1.2 to 3.7 cm long petiole. In the quantitative variables such as width and leaf area, dissimilarity of values was evidenced between the two sites, with Selva Alegre presenting the highest value in the width of the base of the leaf blade of 4.33 cm. The flowers from the Selva Alegre site presented the highest values in the corolla area of 0.5 to 0.84 cm2, with a length of the stamens of 0.6 to 1.5 cm. On the other hand, the Uritusinga site reached the highest value in the length of the style of 0.8 - 1.6 cm, and the length of the flowers was 1.3 to 1.6 cm. The fruits presented an oblong or elliptical shape, dark red in color, with a length of 1.94 - 2.48 cm; the highest number of seeds per fruit was evidenced in the Uritusinga site, with the presence of 39 seeds/fruit with a seed length of 4.3 to 5.8 mm.
