    Para la prevención de la Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2, la educación para la salud y el fomento de hábitos de vida saludables son imprescindibles. En cuanto al paciente ya diagnosticado, la educación diabetológica es la base del tratamiento y se constata en numerosos estudios que es la medida terapéutica con mayor impacto en la reducción de complicaciones de la enfermedad. De ahí la importancia de esta labor de equipo donde el miembro más importante es el propio paciente, ya que su participación es de vital importancia en la consecución de los objetivos. Enseñar al paciente cómo debe cuidarse forma parte de su tratamiento con el mismo grado de importancia que el tomar la medicación prescrita y para ello, el personal de enfermería debe integrar la educación dentro de las actividades a realizar con el paciente diabético.

    For the prevention of Diabetes Mellitus type 2, health education and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits are essential. As for the patient already diagnosed, diabetes education is the basis of treatment and numerous studies have shown that it is the therapeutic measure with the greatest impact on the reduction of complications of the disease. Hence the importance of this teamwork where the most important member is the patient himself, since his participation is of vital importance in achieving the objectives. Teaching the patient how to take care of himself is part of his treatment with the same degree of importance as taking the prescribed medication, and for this, the nursing staff must integrate education into the activities to be carried out with the diabetic patient.
