    En este trabajo se analizan la naturaleza y fines de los Principios Latinoamericanos de Derecho de los Contratos (PLDC), el más reciente instrumento internacional de derecho contractual a nivel regional, planteando que, además de los fines que usualmente se asignan a los instrumentos de derecho uniforme o armonizado, los Principios pueden cumplir las funciones de incentivar el estudio del derecho comparado en Latinoamérica, hacer visible el derecho de contratos latinoamericano en el contexto del estudio derecho comparado, e impulsar la reforma del derecho de contratos en Latinoamérica. El trabajo incluye también una descripción del contexto e historia de los PLDC.

    This paper analyses the nature and purposes of the Principles of Latin American Contract Law (PLACL), the most recent international instrument of contract law at a regional level. This work proposes that in addition to the usually assigned purposes of the uniform or harmonized law instruments, the PLACL can also fulfil de function of encouraging the study of comparative law in Latin America, making Latin American contract law visible in the frame of the study of comparative law, and promoting the reform of contract law in Latin America. The work also includes a description of the context and history of the PLACL.
