Del 24 al 25 de enero de 2023, se celebró el VII Workshop Internacional de Estudios Iberoamericanos Transatlánticos en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Málaga. El objetivo principal de este encuentro fue examinar, desde la perspectiva de las ciencias sociales, el impacto de la pandemia de la covid-19 en la investigación, la transferencia de conocimiento a la sociedad y los comportamientos individuales. Durante el seminario se evaluó cómo se recibieron las noticias relacionadas con la ciencia y la salud en diferentes países de la región iberoamericana, cómo la ciudadanía se vio afectada por esta emergencia sanitaria y cómo influyó en la investigación cualitativa con pacientes con enfermedades raras. También se analizó el papel desempeñado por las instituciones científicas durante el proceso de alarma sanitaria, cómo cambiaron los hábitos de las personas en sus hogares y qué efectos tuvo la difusión de noticias falsas, bulos y campañas de desinformación. En conclusión, se ofrecen una serie de sugerencias y recomendaciones finales de gran interés para comprender socialmente fenómenos como la pandemia de la covid-19, entre las que destaca la importancia de la colaboración entre las ciencias sociales y las ciencias básicas y experimentales para hacer frente a situaciones de emergencia.
From January 24th to 25th, 2023, the VII International Workshop on Transatlantic Ibero-American Studies was held at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Malaga. The main objective of this meeting was to examine, from the perspective of social sciences, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on research, the transfer of knowledge to society, and individual behaviours. During the seminar, the reception of news related to science and health in different countries of the Ibero-American region was evaluated, as well as how the citizens were affected by this health emergency and how it influenced qualitative research with patients suffering from rare diseases. The role played by scientific institutions during the health alarm process was also analysed, along with the changes in people’s habits in their homes and the effects of the dissemination of fake news, rumours, and disinformation campaigns. In conclusion, a series of suggestions and final recommendations of great interest for the social understanding of phenomena such as the COVID-19 pandemic were provided, highlighting the importance of collaboration between social sciences and basic and experimental sciences in addressing emergencies.
