Resumen de Corregidores y alcaldes mayores: Agentes del reformismo ilustrado

El reinado de Carlos III se ha identificado tradicionalmente con la etapa másimportante para las reformas ilustradas en España. En ese período se dieron una gran cantidad de proyectos teóricos y de iniciativas prácticas que afectaron diversos ámbitos, como las obras públicas y la economía. Sin embargo, alguien debía aplicar en el territorio esas nuevas leyes y plasmar, con sus actuaciones, los nuevos principios ilustrados. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el papel de los corregidores y alcaldes mayores en este proceso. Para ello, se ha acudido a los informes que debían redactar al final de sus mandatos, en los cuales incluían, entre otras cosas, las obras realizadas y las iniciativas llevadas a cabo. Esto ha permitido un acercamiento a la figura de estos individuos, que debieron trasladar la teoría y los principios generales, a la práctica de gobierno con los diversos factores limitantes y diferentes contextos.

The reign of Charles III has traditionally been identified as the most important period for Enlightenment reforms in Spain. This period saw a large number of theoretical projects and practical initiatives that affected various areas, such as public works and the economy. However, someone had to apply these new laws in the territory and give shape, through their actions, to the new Enlightenment principles. The aim of this paper is to analyse the role of the corregidores and alcaldes mayores in this process. To this end, we have used the reports they were required to write at the end of their terms of office, which included, among other things, the works carried out and the initiatives undertaken. This has allowed an approach to the figure of these individuals, who had to translate theory and general principles into the practice ofgovernment with the various limiting factors and different contexts.
