    En este trabajo se aborda la figura de Claudio Lamoral, III príncipe de Ligne (1618-1679) como agente de gobierno al servicio de la Monarquía Hispánica durante el reinado de los últimos Austrias. La lealtad y el servicio jugaron un papel determinante para perfilar el "cursus honorum" del III príncipe de Ligne, que fue nombrado virrey de Sicilia y gobernador de Milán al final de su trayectoria política y militar.Las fuentes documentales conservadas en la Biblioteca de la Real Academia de la Historia, en el Archivo Histórico de la Nobleza y en el Archivo General deSimancas han permitido explorar las estrategias de ascenso y consolidación social del linaje de Ligne, así como analizar algunas de sus actuaciones como virrey de Sicilia.

    This paper deals with the figure of Claudio Lamoral, III prince of Ligne (1618-1679) as an agent of government in the service of the Spanish Monarchy during the reign of the last Habsburgs. Loyalty and service played a decisive role in shaping the "cursus honorum" of the 3rd prince of Ligne, who was appointed viceroy of Sicily and governor of Milan at the end of his political and military career.The documentary sources preserved in the Library of the Royal Academy of History, the General Archive of Simancas and the Historical Archive of the Nobility have enabled us, on the one hand, to explore the strategies for the rise and social consolidation of the Ligne lineage and, on the other hand, to analyse some of his actions as viceroy of Sicily.
