Durante la primera mitad del siglo XVII, la ciudad de Jaén se vio inmersa en luchas intestinas entre sus élites, teniendo como actor principal al condado deVillardompardo, el cual adquirió un papel preeminente a tenor de los sobresalientes cargos que desempeñó en el seno de la estructura político-administrativa de la Monarquía Hispánica. Ello le granjeó rivalidades y enemistades con otros linajes en el ámbito local jiennense, las cuales derivaron primero, en abierta conflictividad a través de numerosos pleitos, para después convertirse en violencia extrema como el ataque al castillo que el conde tenía en la villa de Villardompardo en el señalado año de 1640, dirigido por el alcalde y el alguacil mayor, máximos representantes de lajusticia de dicha ciudad.

During the first half of the XVIIth century, the city of Jaén was immersed in internal struggles between its elites, having Villardompardo County as the main actor and acquiring a pre-eminent role based on the outstanding positions it held within the political-administrative structure of the Hispanic Monarchy. This earned the county rivalries and enmities with other lineages in the local area of Jaen, resulting at first on open conflict through numerous lawsuits, to later turn into extreme violent episodes such as the attack on the castle the count owned in the town of Villardompardo in that precise year 1640. Such an attack was directed by both the mayor and the main bailiff, the highest representatives of justice in that city.
