Del retablo devocional al retablo cerámico conmemorativo como elemento identitario en la ciudad de Huelva

    El uso del retablo de culto callejero como muestra de manifestación de la religiosidad popular llega a la ciudad de Huelva a finales del S. XVI. Esta función devocional se mantendrá hasta finales del S. XX cuando se produce el cambio en la funcionalidad de este tipo de manifestaciones públicas. El fenómeno tiene lugar en un contexto marcado por la puesta en marcha del Plan de Monumentalización llevado a cabo durante la alcaldía de Pedro Rodríguez que pretendía mostrar, a través de la plasmación monumental pública, las señas de identidad de la ciudad de Huelva. Las cofradías reproducirán este afán conmemorativo e identitario realizando una relectura de la funcionalidad del retablo de culto que abandonará el ámbito devocional para convertirse en la plasmación de las conmemoraciones históricas de las cofradías penitenciales y de gloria de la ciudad.

    The use of the altarpiece for street worship as a manifestation of popular religiosity arrived in the city of Huelva at the end of the 16th century. This devotional function will be maintained until the end of the 20th century when the change in the functionality of this type of public manifestations takes place. The phenomenon takes place in a context marked by the implementation of the Monumentalization Plan carried out during the mayoralty of Pedro Rodriguez, which aimed to show, through public monuments, the identity of the city of Huelva. The brotherhoods will reproduce this commemorative and identitary eagerness making a rereading of the functionality of the altarpiece of worship that will leave the devotional field to become the embodiment of the historical commemorations of the penitential and glory brotherhoods of the city.
