En la siguiente nota de investigación se exponen de manera preliminar expresiones de violencia simbólica de género encontradas en la prensa chilena durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. En una búsqueda orientada a analizar la conformación de las secciones que organizan revistas y periódicos, se identificaron manifestaciones de violencia de género simbólica-mediática, expresadas en contenidos verbales y/o visuales de las secciones de actualidad, humor, policial y también en la publicidad. Entre el material encontrado destacan los estereotipos de género, la denigración y la naturalización del acoso y la violencia física contra las mujeres. En la nota se plantea la importancia de comprender la función de la prensa en la perpetuación de la violencia de género y la relevancia de explorar esta problemática histórica para la promoción de una sociedad más justa y equitativa.

The following research note presents in a preliminary way expressions of symbolic gender violence found in the Chilean press during the first half of the 20th century. In a search aimed at analyzing the composition of the sections organized by magazines and newspapers, manifestations of symbolic-media gender violence were identified. They are expressed in verbal and/or visual content of current affairs, humor, police sections, and also in advertising. Among the material found, gender stereotypes, denigration, and the naturalization of harassment and physical violence against women stand out. The note raises the importance of understanding the role of the press in the perpetuation of gender violence and the relevance of exploring this historical problem for the promotion of a more just and equitable society.
