Este texto tiene como objetivo investigar la relación entre maestros y discípulos, fundamentada en el amor al saber, que suscita los rasgos sustantivos de la comunidad universitaria en la práctica académica, humanística y ético política. Primero, se aborda el origen de esta relación como práctica de búsqueda de la sabiduría en las escuelas griegas presocráticas y clásicas. Luego se presenta el nacimiento histórico de la universidad occidental en el medioevo como comunidad, gremio e institución social que hereda características de las escuelas antiguas. A partir de este estudio, se pretende aclarar cómo el quehacer reflexivo, crítico y humanístico propio de las ciencias humanas y sociales en general, y de la filosofía en particular, pueden iluminar la práctica y el sentido de la institución universitaria actual en sus funciones sustantivas de la docencia, la investigación y la proyección social.

This text aims to investigate the relationship between teachers and disciples, based on the love of knowledge, which raises the substantive features of the university community in academic, humanistic and ethical-political practice. First, the origin of this relationship as a practice of seeking wisdom in the pre-Socratic and classical Greek schools is addressed. Then the historical birth of the Western university in the Middle Ages is presented as a community, guild and social institution that inherits characteristics of the ancient schools. From this study, it is intended to clarify how the reflective, critical and humanistic work of the human and social sciences in general, and of philosophy in particular, can illuminate the practice and meaning of the current university institution in its substantive functions. of teaching, research and social projection.
