    El Couto Mixto fue un territorio situado en el valle del río Salas, compuesto por tres aldeas, que pertenecían a los reinos de España y Portugal, ostentando una serie de privilegios, políticos, administrativos y comerciales. Este fue anexionado al reino español con el Tratado de límites desde la desembocadura del Miño hasta la unión del río Caya con el Guadiana entre España y Portugal, firmado el 29 de septiembre de 1864. En este trabajo se realiza una revisión de la bibliografía y de fuentes publicadas con relación a la historia y origen del lugar.

    The Couto Mixto was a territory located in the valley of the Salas River, composed of three villages, which belonged to the kingdoms of Spain and Portugal, holding a series of political, administrative, and commercial privileges.

    It was annexed to the Spanish kingdom with the Treaty of limits from the mouth of the Miño to the union of the Caya river with the Guadiana between Spain and Portugal, signed on September 29, 1864. In this work a review of the bibliography and sources is carried out.
