    La llegada de tropas castellanas hasta Camboya a finales del siglo XVI ha sido apreciada comúnmente como un hecho exótico y excéntrico. No obstante, si se analiza el contexto de la época, este movimiento se muestra como el fruto de una serie de condiciones, desafíos y cambios originados tanto en Manila como en la Monarquía Hispánica y en el Asia marítima. En el presente artículo intentaremos apreciar cuáles fueron las condiciones que originaron esta jornada y cómo encaja dentro de las tendencias la Gobernación de Filipinas de finales de siglo.

    The arrival of Castiliantroops in Cambodia at the end of the 16th century has been commonly appreciated as an exotic and eccentric event. However, if the context of the time is analyzed, this movement appears to be the fruit of a series of conditions, challenges and changes originating in Manila and the archipel. In this article we will try to show what were the conditions that gave rise to this day and how it fits within the trends of the Gobernation of Philippines and the Hispanic Monarchy at the end of the century.
