    Retrato de una clase social en decadencia, El Gatopardo refleja los sentimientos y reacciones de una familia noble sometida a los profundos e inevitables cambios del devenir histórico. El presente trabajo busca situar al lector dentro de la cambiante sociedad del Ochocientos italiano y retratar las características de la Casa aristocrática siciliana a través del romanzo italiano por excelencia. Su autor, Giuseppe Tomasi de Lampedusa, experimentó un siglo más tarde los mismos cambios que asolaron a su protagonista. Su única novela es un reflejo de los pensamientos, inquietudes y debates internos de ambos. Tras una breve biografía de su vida y la presentación de la obra, el artículo se centrará en la identificación de los principales pilares de la aristocracia y de la Casa de los Salina: el cabeza de familia y sus descendientes, las posesiones, el sentimiento de clase, su distinción social, y los rituales y ceremoniales que daban orden a todo. De este modo, se analizará el detallismo de la obra de Lampedusa y se ofrecerá un retrato preciso de la familia aristocrática italiana durante los años finales del siglo XIX.

    Portrait of a declining social class, The Leopard reflects the feelings and reactions of a noble family subjected to the profound and inevitable changes of historical development. This work seeks to place the reader within the changing society of the Italian 18th century and portray the characteristics of the Sicilian aristocratic House through the Italian novel par excellence. The autor, Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa, experienced a century later the same changes that devastated his protagonist. His only novel is a reflection of the thoughts, concerns and internal debates of both of them. After a brief biography of his life and the presentation of the romanzo, the article will focus on the presentation of the main pillars of the aristocracy and the House of Salina: the head of the family and his descendants, the possessions, the feeling of class and its social distinction, rituals and ceremonies that gave order to everything. In this way, the detail of Lampedusa's work will be analyzed and a precise portrait of the Italian aristocratic family during the years of the late 19th century will be developed.
