El objetivo central de esta investigación es hacer un balance de la participación de los sectores populares en la independencia del Perú. Para ello se ponderan los aportes de la historiografía tradicional, la historiografía revisionista que surgió a partir de los años 70 del siglo XX y el impacto de estas en los estudios recientes. Estas diferencias de perspectiva obedecen al esfuerzo por visibilizar de manera desagregada la composición social y/o étnica de estos sectores populares y la comprobación de su falta de integración y cohesión social y política lo que vuelve sumamente complejo el análisis de su participación en las guerras de independencia.
The main objective of this research is to take stock of the participation of popular sectors in the independence of Peru. For this, the contributions of traditional historiography, the revisionist historiography that emerged from the 70s of the 20th century and the impact of these on recent studies are pondered. These differences of perspective are due to the effort to make visible in a disaggregated way the social and / or ethnic composition of these popular sectors and the verification of their lack of integration and social and political cohesion, which makes the analysis of their participation in the wars of independence.
