  • Recognizing the importance of public speaking, Walt Whitman strove throughout his life to become an effective speaker. Although he claimed some success in these efforts, Whitman's critics testify to his failure as a public speaker. This study describes the characteristics of Whitman's delivery and assesses his merits as a speaker.
