  • When inadequate communication interfered with the rehabilitation of sixty‐three chronic schizophrenic patients, a speech pathologist was added to the rehabilitation team. He developed a program of speech rehabilitation in which the patients were motivated to increase their communication skills when their improvement was rewarded by a lollipop or a cigarette.
