    Neste artigo, nos propomos a analisar as transformações ocorridas no sistema partidário uruguaio entre 2005 e 2019, situando-as dentro do contexto latino-americano de ascensão e declínio da chamada “onda rosa” e do posterior esboço de uma “maré azul”. Assim, buscamos entender as condições nas quais se deram o declínio dos partidos políticos uruguaios tradicionais; o crescimento, as vitórias eleitorais e o ciclo de governos da Frente Ampla; a rearticulação e renovação da direita tradicional e; o surgimento e fortalecimento de um novo partido de extrema-direita, o Cabildo Abierto. Finalmente, procuramos discutir e problematizar a necessidade de atualização do debate teórico sobre o sistema partidário uruguaio, tendo em vista o quadro de maior fragmentação decorrente das eleições de 2019.

    In this article, we propose to analyze the transformations that occurred in Uruguay’s party system between 2005 and 2019, placing them within the Latin American context of the rise and decline of the so-called “pink wave” and the subsequent outline of a “blue tide”. Thus, we seek to understand the conditions under which the decline of traditional uruguayan political parties took place; the growth, the electoral victories and the cycle of governments of the Frente Amplio; the rearticulation and renewal of the traditional right and; the emergence and strengthening of a new far-right party, the Cabildo Abierto. Finally, we seek to discuss and problematize the need to update the theoretical debate on the Uruguayan party system, in view of the greater fragmentation resulting from the 2019 elections.
