    This article aims to analyze how the image of Vicente de Lemos as dedicated to History was being created by him and his contemporaries, during his life as well as after his death. Being the time frame of this research 1902 to 1952, the first referent of the foundation of the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Rio Grande do Norte, which Lemos was one of the founders; and the tributes paid by his friends on the 50th anniversary of the Institute he helped found. To scrutinize this construction of this intellectual considered one of the founders of potiguar historiography, it was necessary to resort to the intellectual's publications, as well as newspapers, magazines that he wrote or that he was honored with. Being mobilized as a methodology the analysis of sources and the evidence paradigm.

    Este artigo objetiva analisar como a imagem de Vicente de Lemos ligado à História foi gestada por ele e pelos seus contemporâneos, durante sua vida, como também após seu falecimento. Sendo o marco temporal desta pesquisa 1902 a 1952, o primeiro referente à fundação do Instituto Histórico Geográfico do Rio Grande do Norte, do qual Lemos foi um dos fundadores; e o segundo às homenagens feitas pelos seus amigos no aniversário de 50 anos do Instituto que ajudou a fundar. Para perscrutar tal construção desse intelectual, considerado um dos fundadores da historiografia do Rio Grande, foi preciso recorrer a publicações de Lemos, bem como jornais, revistas que escreveu ou que foi homenageado. Sendo mobilizado como metodologia a análise de fontes e o paradigma indiciário.
