El español es la segunda lengua más hablada en EEUU y una de las atacadas y minorizadas del territorio. Con el fin de investigar la presencia de los mitos sobre el español y sus hablantes en EEUU, se han recaudado datos de 210 participantes que expresan su (des)acuerdo con 8 mitos en una escala Likert de 6 puntos. Los resultados indican una importante tendencia a rechazar dichos mitos pese a (i) la raza/ etnicidad auto declarada, (ii) nivel de educación, y (iii) (ausencia de) conocimiento del español con algunas mínimas excepciones. Por tanto, el presente estudio implicaría que la ideología lingüística hegemónica de EEUU está en proceso de cambio.

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US and one of the attacked and minoritized languages in the territory. To investigate the presence of the myths regarding Spanish and its speakers in the US, 210 participants were recruited to express their (dis)agreement with 8 myths in a 6-point Likert scale. The results indicate a high tendency for myth rejection regardless of their (i) self-reported race/ ethnicity, (ii) level of education, and (iii) (absence of) knowledge of Spanish except for a few of them. Thus, the present study would entail that the hegemonic linguistic ideology in the US is starting to change.
