Los estudios de Trabajo Social en el Sistema Universitario Español

    En este trabajo se analiza el panorama que existe en España en relación a los estudios universitarios de Trabajo Social. En concreto, se revisan cuestiones como cuántos títulos de Grados hay, en qué universidades se puede cursar, qué estudios de posgrado oferta nuestro sistema universitario, qué características tienen los estudiantes que cursan titulaciones relacionadas con el trabajo social y cómo es el PDI adscrito al área. El análisis se realiza a partir de los datos oficiales del Ministerio de Universidades de España. Los resultados indican que existen 38 títulos de Grado en Trabajo Social; éste se puede estudiar en casi todas las comunidades autónomas, en universidades tanto presenciales como no presenciales, públicas y privadas. La oferta a nivel de posgrado es, sin embargo, más limitada, lo que dificulta que los egresados puedan continuar sus estudios universitarios en programas específicos de la disciplina. En lo que se refiere a los másteres, hay 69 títulos adscritos al ámbito de “Trabajo Social y orientación”. Sin embargo, sólo 4 de ellos pueden considerarse específicos de trabajo social, al incluir el nombre de la disciplina en su denominación. Esto significa que existe un cierto intrusismo, a nivel de máster, en el sistema universitario español, ya que la mayoría de títulos indexados en el ámbito no son, en sí mismos, de trabajo social. A nivel de Doctorado se han identificado 2 programas; es posible que la oferta sea tan reducida por el carácter aplicado y práctico que ha caracterizado tradicionalmente al trabajo social, y que lo ha alejado de contextos más científicos, haciendo que el número de profesionales interesados por realizar una Tesis Doctoral sea bajo. Esta tendencia, sin embargo, está empezando a cambiar, sobre todo desde que el Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior ha igualado los estudios de Trabajo Social a los de otras disciplinas.

    This paper analyses the general panorama that currently exists in our country in relation to university studies in Social Work. Specifically, it reviews issues such as how many degrees there are, in which universities they can be studied, what postgraduate studies are offered by our university system, what are the characteristics of students who take degrees related to social work and what is the PDI associated to the area of social work. The analysis is based on official data from the Spanish Ministry of Universities. The results show that there are 38 undergraduate degrees in Social Work; which can be studied in practically all the autonomous communities, in both presential and non-presential, public and private universities. The offer at postgraduate level is, however, more limited, which makes it difficult for graduates to continue their university studies in specific programmes in the discipline. As far as master’s degrees are concerned, there are 69 degrees in the field of “Social Work and counselling”. However, only 4 of them can be considered as social work, as they include the term in their denomination. This means that there is a certain intrusiveness, at master’s level, in the Spanish university system, since most of the degrees indexed in the field are not in social work. At doctoral level only 2 programmes have been identified; it is possible that the offer is so reduced due to the applied and practical nature that has traditionally characterised social work, and which has distanced it from more scientific contexts, making the number of professionals interested in doing a doctoral thesis low. This trend, however, is beginning to change, especially since the European Higher Education Area has made social work studies equal to those of other disciplines.
