    Las reducciones del Paraguay con los nativos guaraníes son uno de los grandes frutos de las misiones jesuitas, que fueron posibles gracias a la experiencia acumulada por estos religiosos en el virreinato de Perú. Los jesuitas tuvieron que hacer excepciones a su legislación para asumir las doctrinas, lo que hubieron de repetir en Paraguay. Una de estas doctrinas, la de Juli (Perú), se convirtió en el laboratorio donde se concretaron las formas misionales que después fueron exportadas a Paraguay, entre ellas, el aprendizaje de la lengua nativa. También hubo jesuitas concretos que posibilitaron el florecimiento de las reducciones, siendo uno de ellos Alonso de Barzana, por su estima de los indios, su interés en aprender sus lenguas y su propia labor misionera que le llevó a recorrer unos 20.000 km.

    The Paraguayan reductions with the Guarani natives are one of the great fruits of the Jesuit missions, which were possible thanks to the experience accumulated by these religious in the viceroyalty of Peru. The Jesuits had to make exceptions to their legislation in order to take on the doctrines, which they had to repeat in Paraguay. One of these doctrines, that of Juli (Peru), became the laboratory where the missionary forms that were later exported to Paraguay, including the learning of the native language, took shape. There were also individual Jesuits who enabled the reductions to flourish. Alonso de Barzana was one of them, because of his esteem for the Indians, his interest in learning their languages and his own missionary work, which led him to travel some 20,000 km.
