La Congregación del Dulce Nombre de Jesús se instauró a principios del siglo XVII en la ciudad de Vélez-Málaga convirtiéndose en la centuria ilustrada en uno de los principales signos de distinción nobiliaria de la urbe. La documentación conservada nos permite analizar a través de sus Estatutos los mecanismos para la elección de nuevos miembros y preservar su exclusividad social, así como su representación pública del Paso cada Viernes Santo, mecanismo para ostentar y manifestar públicamente su superioridad moral.

The Congregation of the Sweet Name of Jesus was born at the beginning of the 17th century in Vélez-Málaga. During the Age of Enlightenment, it became one of the main noble institutions in the city. The documentation of the historical archive of this religious and noble entity, and its statutes, show us such interesting aspects as the election of its members and the theatrical performance of Sacred drame which this congregation organized every God Friday.
