Resumen de Propiedades psicométricas del Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics en español para estudiantes de ingeniería y matemática en la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica

  Objetivo: Comprobar las propiedades psicométricas, en términos de validez estructural y consistencia interna, del Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics en su versión de 36 ítems en español. Métodos: El instrumento se administró a 281 estudiantes de ingeniería y matemática de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica y se aplicó un análisis factorial confirmatorio, cuyos indicadores de bondad de ajuste resultaron deficientes para comprobar la estructura factorial de la versión al idioma español del Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics. Resultados: La aplicación de un análisis factorial exploratorio sugirió la reorganización de los ítems en cuatro factores. A esta nueva configuración se le aplicó un análisis factorial confirmatorio y sus indicadores de bondad de ajuste y confiabilidad resultaron satisfactorios. Conclusiones: Según el contexto de aplicación, una reducción de la estructura factorial original del Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics en su versión de 36 ítems sería apropiada, así como una reconfiguración para las escalas de dificultad, competencia cognitiva, afecto y valor. Se recomienda continuar con los estudios tendientes a comprobar si la estructura factorial planteada en el instrumento se mantiene en otros contextos universitarios y con estudiantes de diferentes áreas de conocimiento o, por el contrario, se evidencia una estructura factorial diferente.

  Objective: Verify the psychometric properties, in terms of structural validity and internal consistency, of a Spanish version of Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics in its 36-item version. Methods: The instrument was applied to 281 engineering and mathematics students from the National University of Costa Rica. In the first instance, a confirmatory factor analysis was applied to verify the factorial structure of the Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics, whose goodness fit indexes were deficient. Results: The investigators carried out an exploratory factor analysis, which suggested the reconfiguration of items on four factors. Moreover, a confirmatory factor analysis was applied to this new configuration and its goodness and reliability indexes are considered satisfactory. Conclusion: Given the context of the application, a reduction of the original factorial structure of the Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics in its 36-item version would be appropriate, as well as a reconfiguration for the scales of difficulty, cognitive competence, affect, and value. Hence, the authors recommend continuing with the studies aimed at verifying if the factorial structure proposed in the instrument is maintained in other university contexts and with students from different areas of knowledge or, on the contrary, a different factorial structure is evidenced.
