  Fue creado por Decreto de 8 de mayo de 1969 como Archivo Intermedio dela Administración Central. Sus antecedentes se remontan al siglo XVI ya que, por las funciones que sele encomiendan, es el heredero directo del Archivo General de Simancas y del desaparecido Archivo General Central de Alcalá de Henares (1858 – 1939)

  It was created by Decree of May 8, 1969 as the Intermediate Archive of the Central Administration. Its antecedents date back to the 16th century since, due to the functions entrusted to it, it is the direct heir of the General Archive of Simancas and the missing General Central Archive of Alcalá de Henares (1858 – 1939).
