Los fondos fotográficos de la Biblioteca Nacional de España, se han ido formando desde poco después de la presentación de la fotografía al mundo, debido a la bibliografía que este evento generó y a las publicaciones que contenían fotografía que comenzaron a editar, esto unido al interés de algunos directores que vieron el potencial para la transmisión de imágenes que tenía. Con el tiempo se ha ido formando un fondo voluminoso en el que se reúnen decenas de miles fotografías que representan los materiales, géneros y caminos por donde ha transitado el fenómeno fotográfico: retratos, vistas, monumentos, eventos, guerras, etc.

The photographic funds of the National Library of Spain, have been formed since shortly after the presentation of photography to the world, due to the bibliography that this event generated and the publications that contained photography that they began to publish, this together with the interest of some directors who saw the potential for image transmission it had. Over time, a voluminous fund has been formed in which tens of thousands of photographs are gathered that represent the materials, genres and paths through which the photographic phenomenon has traveled: portraits, views, monuments, events, wars, etc.
