El presente texto pretende mostrar cómo el fondo del Museo de Historia de Madrid tiene una función museográfica y como la historia de la ciudad se puede contar través de él. Se hace un repaso de las imágenes conservadas, tanto los grandes fotógrafos del siglo XIX -Laurent y Clifford- hasta las últimas iniciativas para recopilar fotografías, ya en formato digital, de los actuales acontecimientos del siglo XXI, pasando por todos los grandes hitos del siglo XX, tales como la Guerra Civil, la Postguerra o la Movida Madrileña de los años 80.

This paper aims to show how the collection of the Museo de Historia de Madrid (Museum of History of Madrid) has a museographical function and how the history of the city can be told through it. A review is made of the images saved in the collections of the Museum, from the great photographers of the 19th century such as Laurent and Cliff ord, to the latest initiatives to collect photographs, already in digital format in the latest events happened in the 21st century, going through all the great milestones in the 20th century (Spanish Civil War, the Postwar period, or the 80s in Madrid Scene also known as Movida Madrileña).
