Resumen de ¿Un Contingente de la Legio IIII Macedonica en Varea (Logroño, La Rioja)?

Alejandro Marcos Pous en 1972 estudió el epígrafe funerario de Cayo Valerio Donato, legionario de la IV Ma-cedónica de Varea y pensó en la existencia de un contingente militar. En los 90, las excavaciones detectaron niveles julio-claudios y la inscripción del veterano Tertius. Urbano Espinosa Ruiz propuso en ese momento el origen de la Vareia en un campamento establecido tras las Guerras Cántabras. Con una cronología similar a la vareyense, se descubrió un vicus a 3 kilómetros al oeste durante la década de los 2000. Contando con estos antecedentes junto a una nueva inscripción funeraria, se procede al análisis del poblamiento rural, los paralelos en la evolución del cam-pamento de Herrera de Pisuerga (Palencia) y la misma política militar durante los gobiernos de Augusto y Tiberio. Se busca realizar un estudio sobre el posible establecimiento de un conjunto de soldados de la legioIIIIMacedonicaen el actual barrio de Varea de Logroño.

Alejandro Marcos Pous in 1972 studied the funerary epigraph of Cayo Valerio Donato, legionary of the IV Macedonian of Varea and thought about the existence of a military contingent. Urbano Espinosa Ruiz proposed at that time the origin of the Vareia in a camp established after the Cantabrian Wars. With a chronology similar to that of Vareyense, a vicus was discovered 3 kilometers to the west during the 2000s. Based on this background together with a new funerary inscription, we proceed to analyze the rural settlement, the parallels in the evolution of the camp of Her-rera de Pisuerga (Palencia) and the same military policy during the governments of Augusto and Tiberio. It seeks to carry out a study on the possible establishment of a group of soldiers of the legio IIII Macedonica in the current neighborhood of Varea de Logroño
