  • James Otis's “Writs oj Assistance” speech, delivered in 1761, has been the object oj conflicting interpretations regarding its relationship to the triggering oj the American Revolution. In this article the author indicates historical errors concerning Otis and his speech, attempting to place both in their proper perspective.
