  • Resumen
    • Centennial celebrations of the early battles of the American Revolution were held in Boston during the summer of 1875. Historic military units from Maryland, South Carolina, and Virginia were invited to take part. During the celebrations, speeches of reconciliation were given by a number of Southerners, including Thomas Simons, Fitzhugh Lee, W. B. Porter, and James Gilchrist. The emotionalism of the occasion was one indication of the desire for reconciliation between North and South.
