    En 1855 José Xifré Downing comenzó a levantar frente al museo del Prado un palacio de estilo neo-árabe que, aun gozando de gran popularidad por su singularidad y exotismo, terminó siendo objeto de la piqueta a mediados del siglo XX. Revisamos aquí el proceso de conformación y destrucción del edificio, siempre ligado al de sus sucesivos propietarios, que introdujeron diversas alteraciones tanto en la construcción principal como las aledañas dentro de la parcela a lo largo de un siglo.

    In 1855 José Xifré Downing began to build a neo-Arab style palace in front of the Prado Museum, which, while enjoying great popularity for its uniqueness and exoticism, ended up being demolished in the middle of the 20th century. Here we review the process of conformation and destruction of the building, always linked to that of its successive owners, who made various alterations both in the main construction and in the surrounding areas within the plot over a century.
