En el transcurso de la primera guerra civil romana, los populares entran en Roma. Cayo Mario lo hace acompañado de unos enigmáticos bardei, identifi cados con los várdulos por algunos autores. En el artículo se repasan otras opciones y diferentes aspectos relacionados con ellas. Finalmente se considera como la más razonable la hipótesis de su origen germánico expuesta en su día por Ludovico Muratori.

In the course of the Sulla’s Roman civil war, the populares enter Rome. Gaius Marius does it accompanied by some enigmatic bardei, identifi ed with the varduli by some authors. The question remains open. Other options and different aspects related to them are reviewed in the article. Finally, the hypothesis of its Germanic origin exposed in its day by Ludo-vico Muratori is considered the most reasonable.
