Arte rupestre en el Valle el Encanto (Ovalle, Región de Coquimbo): Hacia una revaluación del sitio-tipo del estilo Limarí

    En este trabajo se presenta una revaluación del arte rupestre del sitio Valle El Encanto (Ovalle, Región de Coquimbo, Chile), sitio-tipo que permitió la definición del Estilo Limarí y posterior asociación al Complejo Cultural El Molle, representante poblacional del Período Alfarero Temprano en el Norte Semiárido. A partir de una evaluación crítica de los supuestos sobre los que se fundó tal asociación, así como de un nuevo análisis del arte rupestre de El Encanto, se propone una segregación de sus representaciones en tres conjuntos diferentes, asociados a los períodos Arcaico Tardío, Alfarero Temprano e Intermedio Tardío/Tardío, respectivamente. A partir de tales resultados se discute y se redefine la problemática del arte rupestre en la zona meridional del Norte Semiárido chileno.

    This paper presents a reevaluation ofthe Valle El Encanto rock art site (Ovalle, Región of Coquimbo, Chile). The Limarístyle ivas originally definedat this site and ivas interpreted as associated chronologically with the El Molle Complex, a representative culture ofthe Early Ceramic period in Chile's Semiarid North. Based on a críticalassessment ofthe assumptions that led to this interpretation, and also through a new analysis ofthe rock art itself we have proposed dividing its representations into three main sets, associated with the Late Archaic, Early Ceramic and Late Intermediate/Late periods. Through the results, we discuss and redefine the topic ofrock art expression in Chile's Semiarid North.
