  La lactancia materna al tener múltiples componentes aporta beneficios, mejor aún si lo realiza de forma exclusiva hasta los 6 meses y lo complementa hasta los 2 años. Uno de los factores por los cuales no se cumple la lactancia es la falta de consejería, de manera que es indispensable el rol de enfermería donde el personal se encuentre en constante aprendizaje. Elobjetivo es determinar el rol de enfermería durantela lactancia materna en el primer año de vidamediante revisión Bibliográfica y la realización de encuestas en mujeres de edad fértil atendidas en un centro de salud en la ciudad de Machala. La Metodología es de tipo analítico, descriptivo y de corte transversal, la muestra fue 150 mujeres en edad fértil, se utilizaron encuestas que aportan información demográfica y 19 preguntas relacionadas a la Lactancia Materna, la tabulación fueen el programa estadístico StatisticalPackageforthe Social Sciences (SPSS), se utilizaron artículos científicos, entre los resultados obtenidos está el tipo de alimentación a los bebés es; el 46,7% leche materna, el 15,3% leche artificial y el 2,0% desconocían la alimentación. Referentea las causas para no dar de lactar al bebé el 56% desconoce, sin embargo, al preguntar sobre los beneficios de la Leche Maternael 79,3% respondieron que tiene anticuerpos y protege de enfermedades de la infancia. Por lo que se concluye que el rol de enfermería es muy importanteen proporcionar información sobre lactancia materna y alimentos que pueden recibir los niños durante el primer año de vida a fin de prevenir enfermedades.

  Breastfeeding, having multiple components, provides benefits, even better if it is done exclusively up to 6 months and complements it up to 2 years. One of the factors for which lactation is not fulfilled is the lack of counseling, so that the role of nursing is essential where the staff is in constant learning. The objective is to determine the role of nursing during breastfeedingin the first year of life by means of a bibliographic review and the conduct of surveys in womenof childbearing age attended at a health center in the city of Machala. The Methodology is analytical, descriptive and cross-sectional, the sample was 150 women of childbearing age, surveys that provide demographic information and 19 questions related to Breastfeeding were used, the tabulation was in the statistical program Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), scientific articles were used, among the results obtained is the type of feeding babies is;

  46.7% breast milk, 15.3% artificial milk and 2.0% were unaware of feeding. Regarding the causes for not breastfeeding the baby, 56% are unaware, however, when asked about the benefits of Breast Milk, 79.3% responded that it has antibodies and protects against childhood diseases. Therefore, it is concluded that the role of nursing is very important in providing information on breastfeeding and food that children can receive during the first year of life in order to prevent diseases.
